Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck visits Meyer shipyard in Papenburg
Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck visited the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg on Friday. During his visit, he informed himself about the current situation in the shipbuilding industry and the challenges facing the industry.
The Meyer shipyard is one of the world's leading shipyards and is known for its innovative ship concepts. The company employs around 3,500 people at its Papenburg site. Habeck was accompanied on his visit by the Lower Saxony Minister for Economic Affairs, Olaf Lies.
During his visit, Habeck spoke with management and employees of the shipyard about the current situation in the shipbuilding industry. The industry is currently facing a number of challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the rising cost of raw materials.
Habeck also toured the shipyard's facilities and was shown the latest shipbuilding technologies. He was particularly impressed by the shipyard's use of virtual reality to design and build ships.
